DB2 UDB for z/OS Database Administration Workshop P2 - (V8) (CF84) or have equivalent experience
DB2 UDB for z/OS System Administration (CF85) or have equivalent experience

  DB2 system performance analysis and tuning introduction

Identify why some z/OS concepts and controls have important influences on DB2 performance
Identify how DB2 works so that you can begin to monitor and tune DB2




  The DB2 trace

Set up and handle DB2 traces for both continuous monitoring and for problem analysis
Describe when to start with statistics or with accounting reports, depending on the situation
Decide how to monitor and tune in your environment
List basic principles of reading and understanding monitor reports




  Introduction to the operating system and hardware

Discuss operating system and hardware topics with other systems people
Identify the features and limits of certain hardware
Relate DB2-originated reports with system-originated reports




  Service time, queuing time, Case A transaction analysis

Use accounting reports
Predict the effect of tuning actions and hardware changes




  Introduction and analysis of Case D

Do an in-depth analysis of an accounting trace




  The disk subsystems and DB2 Input/Output (I/O)

Identify how I/O work




  Capacity analysis and massive batch

Predict the effect of tuning actions and hardware changes
Identify the issues of running massive batch jobs in parallel with performance-critical transactions




  In-depth application of the DB2 system

Monitor current usage (behavior) of important parts of DB2
Differentiate between good and bad behavior
Turn the tuning knobs on the DB2 system level
Assist application developers to exploit (if needed) certain features on the DB2 system level
