Develop the skills and knowledge required for implementation of Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex (GDPS) in the context of Global Mirror. Get an overview of the prereq requirements and provide an opportunity for hands-on customization of a GDPS environment. Explore the technology that provides the availability benefits with disaster recovery protection. This course is hands-on lab intensive.

This is an advanced course for IBM Global Services, ATS & FTSS Professionals needing to develop the skills and knowledge required for implementation of GDPS in the context of Global Mirror.

Note for US IBM Employees Only: This is a sponsor managed course and when delivered in the US is subject to an additional tuition charge and is not included in the US Education Funding Process

Service perform specialist with experience in one or more of the following areas:

Parallel Sysplex implementation
System Automation for S/390 implementation and customization
Remote Copy (PPRC) implementation for Disaster Recovery
It is expected that these skills will not be contained in one person. All of theses skills are needed to perform the GDPS service, therefore, the GDPS engagement will be done as a team. The team is expected to consist of a Systems, a Storage and an automation person along with a project manager.

Before attending this class, you should have read the GDPS white paper on the internet and have a working knowledge in the following areas:

Defining Parallel and Base Sysplex Environment
MVS and Job Entry Subsystem 2 (JES2) operations
Hardware Configuration Definition (HCD) and Input/Output Configuration Program (IOCP)
Time Sharing Option/Extensions (TSO/E) Interactive System Productivity Facility/Program Development Facility (ISPF/PDF)
MVS configuration and maintenance strategy
You should also have familiarity in the following areas:
MVS and JES2 Installation (CBIPO) customizing and tailoring
SMS implementation
System Automation for OS/390
Tivoli Netview for OS/390 - Resource Access Control Facility (RACF) implementation
Virtual Telecommunications Access Method (VTAM) implementation
MVS Performance parameters, Workload Manager (WLM) (or IEAIPSxx)

Enterprise Storage Server (ESS) setup and operational feature
Logout Recorder (LOGREC) and System Management Facility (SMF) recording

You should leave the class with level 3 GDPS/Global Mirror (GM) skills and be able to implement GDPS/Global Mirror under the supervision of a GDPS Advisor. The level 3 skills include:

Implement GDPS standard and planned actions
Define DASD configuration to GDPS
Understand controlling system requirements (GDPS-K and GDPS-R)
Explore systems management in a multisite environment
Design maintenance procedures for the GDPS environment
Design test processes to ensure recovery ability
Use MVS, Remote Copy, and GDPS commands to control and maintain the GDPS environment
Build GDPS project management skills
Assist with the development of a GDPS implementation plan
